Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
LOCATION: 3000 Arctic Boulevard
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. Example of Duties
Responds to field emergencies by coordinating and dispatching field service personnel. Schedules appointments, field investigations, and inspections while maintaining clear communication. Handles requests related to water and wastewater services, inspections, utility locates, and emergency utility repairs. Processes, reviews, and schedules 811 locates within the designated time frame. Reviews engineered plans to support the issuance of utility permits. Issues and processes payments for water, sewer, and mobile hydrant use permits. Inspects mobile meters on trucks used for hydrant access. Creates service orders and assists with new account setup while ensuring accurate records and logs. Supports the Cross-Connection Control Program (backflow prevention) and performs additional tasks as assigned to ensure efficient departmental operations. Strong customer service skills are essential to effectively communicate with customers, contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders, ensuring responsive, professional, and solution-oriented service in all aspects of the role. Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and three (3) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, code enforcement, and/or a related field, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician I level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Associate's degree in Engineering, Drafting, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), or a discipline specific to the department, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician I level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.
