Job Information

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-Tech), Local 1547 and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

 

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance & Operations

HOURS OF WORK: 4/10; Tuesday to Friday, 7:00 am to 5:30 pm

LOCATION: 4551 Fairbanks Street

Example of Duties

Services and maintains a variety of vehicles and equipment such as performing oil changes, fluid level checks, lubrication of moving parts, and checking batteries. Assists mechanics in the repair and maintenance of a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and other pieces of equipment. Cleans and maintains shop work areas including removal of snow, and debris. Properly disposes of discarded oil and other servicing related materials. Dismounts, repairs, performs mounting, balancing and removing/replacing of tires at various locations. Maintains a harmonious work environment. Assists in shop cleanup, moving vehicles to/from the shop. Utilizes the equipment maintenance management software to document work performed. Must provide own standard tools of the trade. Performs other duties assigned. Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program.

OR

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and one (1) year of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.

Must possess and/or obtain:

  • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
  • A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
Must possess the ability to utilize:
  • Commonly used hand tools of the trade and shop machinery i.e. drill presses, grinders, pneumatic impacts, tire machine, spin balancer, vehicle hoists, floor jacks, stands, wheel chalks, oil catch pans, pneumatic greaser and oil pumps, etc.
