Job Information

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

DEPARTMENT: Traffic Engineering
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
LOCATION:4700 Elmore Road
 
 This is a Temporary Full-Time position that may not exceed six (6) months from the date of hire. 

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties

Under general supervision, assists with field installation, monitoring, retrieval, and maintenance of traffic data collection systems and computer databases. Works in and around heavy traffic during extended periods of time in various weather conditions. Performs traffic studies including vehicle counts, stop-and-delay studies, gap studies, radar checks, and pedestrian zone evaluations; compile and edit data; file and maintain records, and perform other related duties. Investigates requests for traffic information. Other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and eighteen (18) months experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, code enforcement, customer service representative, and/or a related field.

OR

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and successful completion of at least three (3) courses in any combination of geometry, drafting, surveying (Geomatics) or Right of Way (ROW).

Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.

Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check within 6 months of hire.
