Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation
HOURS OF WORK: Schedule may vary, Monday - Friday, 8am - 6pm
LOCATION: Spenard Rec Center 2020 West 48th Ave, Anchorage
** Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps. **
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties
Under supervision, the Summer Day Camp Recreation Specialist I at the Spenard Recreation Center provides leadership and functional supervision to participants in the summer camp program. Efficiently leads and organizes daily program and facility activities and performs related work as required. Provides excellent customer service in-person, via telephone and e-mail. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and three (3) months experience leading, directing, supervising, coaching, or teaching children and/or adults at a recreation facility, a childcare facility, a childcare program, camps, educational institutions, therapeutic recreational programs, team, organized youth programs, or other similar programs.
All applicants must possess or obtain:

American Red Cross First Aid Certification and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or equivalent at time of hire.

Pediatric CPR/FA Certification at time of hire.

Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).

Be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
