Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee
This position is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 302, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste Services
HOURS OF WORK: 4/10s; Work Schedule to be Determined
LOCATION: Primary: Anchorage Regional Landfill - 15500 Eagle River Loop -and/or- Secondary: Central Transfer Station - 1208 E 56th Avenue
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
Example of Duties
Performs heavy physical labor; grounds maintenance to include picking up litter, shoveling, plowing, sanding, and other seasonal related maintenance; directing traffic; greasing and light equipment maintenance such as lights and tire repairs; operating sanders, water trucks, small loaders/skid steers, compactor, cherry pickers. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year experience in the operation of solid waste transfer and disposal facilities or equivalent elsewhere; to include experience in operating light and medium equipment.
All applicants must possess and/or obtain:
- A valid State of Alaska Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement, no airbrake or transmission restrictions at time of hire. Applicants with a restriction of "L-Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only" and "E-Automatic Transmission Vehicles Only" are not eligible.
- A satisfactory drug screening at time of hire.
- Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
- Satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
