Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.
DEPARTMENT: Port of Alaska
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, Varies
LOCATION: 1871 Anchorage Port Road, Anchorage AK
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Example of Duties
Works directly for the Port Director. Maintains and manages the POA Safety Program. Provides expertise regarding safety codes. Uses in-depth knowledge of OSHA federal and state industry standards to provide guidance and recommendations to the Port staff, municipal risk managers, and the Municipal Attorney's Office as needed. Responsible for maintaining and completing the OSHA 300 Logs accurately. Schedules and creates presentations for monthly safety briefings to both the Port admin and maintenance staffs. Chairs the Port of Alaska Stakeholder Safety Committee. Utilizes strong working knowledge of safety inspections, safety audits, and has the ability to communicate effectively and train workers in all aspects of safety. Performs other duties as assigned by the Port Director.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High School diploma, GED or equivalent, and eight (8) years of experience in safety engineering, industrial health and safety, or a related field.
OR
Associate’s degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Studies or a discipline related to occupational health and safety and six (6) years of experience in safety engineering, industrial health and safety, or a related field.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Studies or a discipline related to occupational health and safety and four (4) years of experience in safety engineering, industrial health and safety, or a related field.
OR
Master’s degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Studies or a discipline related to occupational health and safety and two (2) years of experience in safety engineering, industrial health and safety, or a related field.
All applicants must possess and/or complete:

Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.

American Red Cross First Aid Certification, and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification within 90 days of hire.

American Red Cross or American Heart Organization Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification or equivalent within 90 days of hire.

Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
