Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

These positions are represented by the Public Employees, Local 71 and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and Public Employees, Local 71.

DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
HOURS OF WORK: Shifts vary Monday through Sunday according to maintenance needs, conditions, and seasons
LOCATION: 12001 Business Blvd, Suite 123, Eagle River

Example of Duties

Under the general direction of the Working Foreman and the Principal Administrative Officer, the primary purpose of this position is to maintain Municipality of Anchorage Park lands and facilities in a safe and usable condition for the general public to enjoy. The duties of this position focus on the ability to work independently, exercise judgment, initiative, and lead the work of lower-level staff on a project or a day-to-day basis Leads, assigns, and provides maintenance of parks, sports fields, facilities, outdoor recreation facilities, trails, and streetscapes. Duties include but are not limited to; Winter tasks; maintain ice rinks, ski trails, park equipment, and remove snow from trails, park facilities, walkways, parking lots, and roadways. Summer tasks: mow and maintain parks and field turf, maintain trails, inspect, and repair playground equipment and park amenities, remove graffiti, maintain sports fields. Year-round tasks: maintain parks and facilities, provide trash collection, inspect, and repair playground equipment and park amenities, provide support for department events, generate reports, clean, and maintain outdoor restrooms, equipment, and shops
in accordance with department standards. Requires knowledge of light equipment, small tool operation, ability to drive and operate various types of vehicles and equipment, read, and comprehend instruction manuals, plans, and maps. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and one (1) year experience as a Parks Caretaker I or the equivalent.

Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
