Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Development Services
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 16:30
LOCATION: 4700 Elmore Road

Example of Duties
Respond to and resolve complaints regarding permitted and non-permitted uses of the Municipal rights of way. Enforce Anchorage Municipal Code, Title 24 and other applicable titles and regulations. Issue written memos and civil citations. Represent the Municipality of Anchorage in judicial or quasi-judicial proceedings. Review, comment, and/or approve construction and utility plans, development plans, and conduct construction and use inspections to Municipality of Anchorage Standard Specifications (MASS) and other pertinent standards. Review and comment on platting cases and respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding Right of Way activities. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
OR
Associate’s degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), or a discipline specific to the department, and three (3) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design CAD), traffic signal control and/or code enforcement, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or a discipline specific to the department, and one (1) year of experience at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.
Must possess and/or obtain:
- Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
- Valid State of Alaska driver’s license and satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
- International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) or American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Work Zone Traffic Control Technician certification within six (6) months of hire. IMSA and ATSSA are required to implement and inspect traffic control and road closures.
- Work Zone Safety Officer Certification within six (6) months of hire.
Preference:
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) including OSHA 10-hour, OSHA 20-hour, OSHA 30-hour.
- State of Alaska Certified Erosion & Sediment Control Lead (AK-CESCL).
