DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00
LOCATION: 3000 Arctic Boulevard

Example of Duties
Under the direction of the IT Division Director, this position oversees the development, maintenance, and administration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program to support Anchorage Water and Wastewater (AWWU) divisions' operations. Its primary responsibility is to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of GIS data, and to enhance the use of spatial data for planning and decision-making at all levels of leadership at the Utility.
This position functions as the project manager for GIS initiatives and is responsible for designing the overall GIS system architecture based on industry's best practices using IT's established tools, technologies and development standards. Possesses knowledge of GIS tools and technologies, and has a good understanding of systems in use at AWWU that are integrated with geographical information. Oversees, coordinates, implements, and maintains geospatial data for system interfaces and engages in problem-solving and system development.
Supervises and provides technical guidance to GIS staff, contractors, and/or interns in implementing GIS solutions that support business applications for AWWU’s divisions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Participate in major emergencies or disasters as outlined in AWWU’s disaster plan matrix, which defines each employee’s potential duties and responsibilities. This may include 12-hour work shifts, which may continue for 72 hours or more starting at any time an event might occur, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and ten (10) years of related professional level experience, of which two (2) years must have been at the supervisory level.
OR
Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Business, Public Administration or a related discipline, and eight (8) years of related professional level experience, of which two (2) years must have been at the supervisory level.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, Public Administration or a related discipline, and six (6) years of related professional level experience, of which two (2) years must have been at the supervisory level.
Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
