Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation

HOURS OF WORK: Schedules vary; Between 5 am - 9 pm, Monday-Sunday

LOCATION: Dimond Pool 2909 W. 88th Ave or West Pool 1700 Hillcrest Drive

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties

This position as assigned: Lifeguards indoor and outdoor aquatic activities; teaches swimming lessons, takes hourly chemical readings and adjusts pool chemistry as needed, cleans facility and cashiers. Incumbent must be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. 

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

Applicants must possess the following valid certifications to apply:

• American Red Cross or equivalent Lifeguard Training at time of hire.

• American Red Cross or equivalent First Aid Certification at time of hire.

• American Red Cross or equivalent Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Professional Rescuers at time of hire.

• Employment is conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
