Project Estimator - Steel Construction/Fabrication

Our client is a well-established steel fabrication and welding company based in North Pole, Alaska. They are known for tackling complex construction and fabrication projects with precision and professionalism. They are looking for an experienced Project Estimator to join their team and play a key role in driving project success from the ground up.
Position Summary
The Project Estimator is responsible for cost estimating, scheduling, planning, and materials procurement for steel construction and fabrication projects. This role works cross-functionally with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers — and reports directly to the General Manager. Steel project experience is a must.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Bidding
- Prepare quantity take-offs; estimate costs for materials, labor, and equipment
- Develop bid packages, solicit bids, and review subcontractor/supplier bids for contract conformity
- Write bidder instructions and required bid forms
- Analyze construction documents, specifications, and proposals to prepare accurate project estimates
- Manage day-to-day steel fabrication project operations from award through closeout
- Create and maintain preconstruction/design schedules; track multiple projects simultaneously
- Coordinate contract administration, materials purchasing, procurement, and scheduling
- Monitor job budgets; establish and maintain project schedules
- Interface with Ironworker General Foreman and internal departments
- Manage subcontractor prequalification; verify experience and financial capabilities
- Communicate with owners, general contractors, architects, and engineers
- Read and comprehend plan drawings and specifications
- Ensure field teams have the information needed to execute on schedule
Requirements
- 4-year degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent preferred
- 2+ years of experience in a construction-related field; steel fabrication experience required
- Working knowledge of Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations
- Strong communication, organizational, and people management skills
- Self-starter with a can-do attitude and ability to manage competing deadlines
- Must pass a background screening, post-offer medical exam, and drug/physical capabilities test
