We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to plan, deliver, and evaluate individualized educational services for youth in a residential treatment program. This role works closely with the local school district and an interdisciplinary treatment team to support students' academic and therapeutic progress.
What you'll do
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in coordination with the local school district
- Provide direct instruction in basic skills, remedial education, and GED preparation
- Administer achievement assessments across reading, math, spelling, and vocational areas
- Integrate students' Individualized Service/Treatment Plans (ISPs) into the educational program
- Observe and document student behavior; implement behavior modification plans as needed
- Provide crisis intervention and support milieu treatment activities
- Maintain accurate daily records, incident reports, and credit transfer documentation
- Collaborate with clinical staff, school district personnel, and community professionals
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related human services field (master's preferred)
- Current Alaska Special Education teaching certificate, or substitute accepted by the local school district
- Knowledge of Alaska childcare regulations
- Valid Alaska driver's license with insurable driving history
- Ability to physically perform restraint techniques after certification training
- Current first aid/CPR certification, or ability to obtain
- Must pass a fingerprint and background check through the State of Alaska
