Job Information

 

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

These positions are represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
HOURS OF WORK: Hours vary; Monday through Sunday; Between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
LOCATION: West Pool; 1700 Hillcrest Dr.

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties

This position serves as a Lead Lifeguard. Provides lifesaving services and maintenance of aquatic facilities as required; provides 
supervision of participants to ensure the safety of Municipal aquatic facility users and waterfront area; communicates information 
to coworkers, immediate supervisor and the public; provides a wide variety of water safety instruction to children and adults; 
performs facility and ground security; assigns and performs duties related to maintaining water quality standards. Reports any
pool related mechanical, equipment, or supply issues. Ensure Parks and Recreation Aquatics Division policy and procedure 
standards are followed. Assist with training staff to maintain lifeguard skill requirements. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year lifeguard experience and experience as a swim instructor.
 

All applicants must possess and/or obtain.

· American Red Cross Lifeguard Training at time of hire.

· American Red Cross First Aid Certification at time of hire.

· American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Professional Rescuers at time of hire.

· American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification at time of hire.

· American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification at time of hire.

· Certified Pool/spa Operator Certification or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification at time of hire.
