As the Development and Communications Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in crafting and executing dynamic communication strategies that align with the organization’s growth objectives. This includes driving public relations efforts, managing marketing campaigns, and building a strong social media presence to amplify the organization's mission. Your focus will be on creating compelling messages that resonate with donors, volunteers, and the community, fostering a positive image and rallying support. Effective communication with a diverse range of stakeholders is key to advancing the client’s mission.

Your day-to-day:
The Development and Communications Specialist will manage the client’s online presence, including website content and social media, while optimizing search engine visibility to enhance public engagement. This role involves coordinating publicity for agency programs and fundraising events, drafting and distributing press releases, and executing statewide media campaigns. You will write, edit, and proactively seek media placement for articles about staff, volunteers, events, and services to increase public awareness. Responsibilities also include designing and producing agency collateral, maintaining a digital library, and capturing photos and videos for publication. Additionally, you will monitor and recommend social media posting schedules, collaborate with departments to ensure messaging consistency, and evaluate communication strategies for effectiveness. Working closely with the Director, you will assist in donor cultivation through consistent communication, donor administration, and support for online fundraising efforts. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
You need:
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field is preferred.
- Prior experience in development and/or communications is preferred.
- Must pass a state and federal criminal background check.
- Must have a valid Alaska driver’s license, a good driving record, and proof of auto insurance.
- Must be able to drive and use your vehicle for company business.
