A well-respected marine construction company, recognized for delivering complex, high-quality waterfront infrastructure projects, is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its finance and accounting operations during a key phase of organizational growth.
With a long-standing reputation for excellence in marine construction, including piers, docks, bulkheads, and pile driving, the company is now transitioning from using shared financial services to a fully independent internal structure. Your day-to-day:
- Partner with the CFO to transition financial operations from a shared services model to an independent internal department
- Design and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls that promote accuracy, efficiency, and regulatory compliance
- Establish robust financial reporting structures, including month-end close processes, reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Build and lead a capable accounting team—hiring, training, and developing staff to support the company’s evolving needs
- Oversee the preparation of accurate, timely financial statements and managementnt reports
- Contribute to cash flow planning, forecasting, and budgeting to support the organization’s long-term growth and financial stability
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including GAAP and tax requirements
- Maintain strong relationships with external auditors and regulatory agencies
- Provide strategic financial insight to support risk assessment, planning, and informed decision-making in partnership with the CFO
Ideally you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- 7+ years of experience in accounting or finance leadership, preferably in the construction or marine industry.
- Proven experience setting up or restructuring finance and accounting functions.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations, and financial compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
