Job Information

 

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

 

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

 

DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation

HOURS OF WORK: Schedule varies; Monday through Sunday between 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.

LOCATION: 9401 W Raspberry Rd

 

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

 

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties

Under supervision, the Recreation Specialist II at Kincaid Outdoor Center, leads entry-level facility staff. Delivers recreation activities and events, monitors participant behavior and maintain a clean facility. This position is distinguished from that of Recreation Specialist I by the degree of accountability in the work and greater latitude in the exercise of independent judgment concerning assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

 

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year experience in the program or activity under consideration. Prior experience in the use of recreational equipment is required.

All applicants must possess or obtain:

  • American Red Cross First Aid Certification, and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or equivalent at time of hire.

  • A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record at time of hire.

  • Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) at time of hire.
