Job Information

 

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

 

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

 

DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Library

HOURS OF WORK: Tuesday & Wednesday 10:15 am-7:15 pm, Thursday through Saturday 9:15am-6:15pm

LOCATION: Mountain View Library - 120 Bragaw St


Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

 

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

 

To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.


 

Example of Duties

Assist the public with the circulation of materials. Help meet the material needs of patrons through circulation: charging, discharging, and library card registration. Provide technology assistance, quick reference assistance by using our Integrated Library System or the Online Public Access Catalog. Assist patrons with the Self-Checkout Machines, copiers, our website, databases, and occasionally the Automated Handling System. Provide support to understaffed Library locations and completing special projects. Assist with Library programs both inside and outside the library. Resolve any questions patron may have regarding their account, accept fines and fees by using the cash register or card reader. Train and assign volunteers. Other duties include emptying book drops, shelving, sorting, answering phones, shipping, and routing materials to other locations. This position is also expected to assist with bus pass sales, voter registration, and revenue generating opportunities. Receive mail, office supplies and, and other office supplies. Establish and maintain effective relations with coworkers, the public, and vendors.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school, GED, or the equivalent and one (1) year of customer service and/or library experience.

Employment is conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
