Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
These positions are represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.
DEPARTMENT: Loussac Library
HOURS OF WORK: Hours vary; Monday through Sunday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
LOCATION OF WORK: 3600 Denali Street
These are regular, part-time positions working 18 hours per week.
Example of Duties
Pull materials from the Automated Handling bins, sort, and, shelve them in order. Check out and check in library materials to and from patrons. Shift materials as needed. Shelf read to ensure proper order. Assist public in use of automated handling and self-check machines. Register library patrons for library cards. Aid customers with the use of library website and catalog. Direct customers to the location of library materials. Maintain library order, straightening shelves, refilling displays, checking computers and other equipment.
Establish and maintain effective relations with coworkers and the public; Treat everyone with honesty, respect, and fairness. Assist in Anchorage Public Library's (APL) diversity and inclusiveness efforts. Ensure excellent customer service and a positive user experience while being an efficient member of the team.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and six (6) months of customer service experience (volunteer or paid).
Preferences:
- Prefer applicants with previous library shelving experience
- Prefer applicants with knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and alphabetization
