Job Information

 

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employees.

This position is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 302, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

 

DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste Services

HOURS OF WORK: 4 x 10's - Schedule to be determined

LOCATION: Anchorage Regional Landfill - 15500 Eagle River Loop -and/or: Central Transfer Station - 1208 E 56th Avenue

 
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
 

To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.


Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:
  • Internal applicants currently working under the Operating Engineers Local 302 Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Local union dispatched applicants
  • External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement

 

Example of Duties

Litter pick up and grounds maintenance as needed such as lawn mowing, weed whacking, sanding, shoveling, replacing signs, painting. Perform traffic control at the Central Transfer Station and / or Anchorage Regional Landfill to direct customers to proper dumping stations and reduce traffic congestion and wait times. Load white goods for metal recycling. Assemble pipe with hand tools. Operate skid steers and mini loaders for cleaning and metals recycling. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.

Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.

Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
