This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

 

DEPARTMENT: Planning

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
LOCATION: 4700 Elmore Road

 

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

 

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties

Reviews plans to assure conformance with Anchorage Municipal Code (AMC) Title 21, Land Use Planning, for residential, commercial, industrial and public use developments. Confers with property owners, contractors, architects and engineers on permit issues for projects in the planning stages. Proactively assists the public in resolving conflicts with designs and Title 21. Answers inquiries on all aspects of Title 21, Land Use Planning code and directs inquiries to other departments as appropriate. Writes technical reports regarding findings from plan reviews. Prepares cases and presentations before boards and commissions. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and seven (7) years of technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management, or a related field, including one (1) year enforcing Anchorage land use regulation (AMC, Title 21 or COSA), or at the Plan Reviewer II level with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere

OR

Associate’s degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Drafting, Statistics, Logistics, or similar discipline, and five (5) years of technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management, or a related field, including one (1) year enforcing Anchorage land use regulation (AMC, Title 21 or COSA), or at the Plan Reviewer II level with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Drafting, Statistics, Logistics, or similar discipline, and three (3) years of technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management, or a related field, including one (1) year enforcing Anchorage land use regulation (AMC, Title 21 or COSA), or at the Plan Reviewer II level with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.

Must possess and/or obtain:

 

Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
 
Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License and satisfactory Driving Record at time of hire.

Preference:
 
International Code Council (ICC) Zoning Inspector certification or similar certification.
