This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.
DEPARTMENT: Equal Rights Commission
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8a-5p
LOCATION: City Hall Suite 110. 632 W 6th Avenue
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Example of Duties
The Investigator III independently and impartially plans and conducts moderately complex investigations into allegations of discrimination under Title 5 of the Anchorage Municipal Code, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Interprets and applies these statutes; conducts fact finding and conciliation conferences; and conducts interviews, analyzes evidence, and writes narrative reports including findings of investigation and case closure. Participates and assists in training with other Investigators and advises and assists other investigators in various discrimination fact situations. The Investigator III also offers recommendations to management on findings of discrimination, resolution of matters through legally binding settlement agreements, or offering other solutions to complex problems. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and seven (7) years of professional investigative experience in management, human resources, law, legal advocacy, and/or closely related field.
OR
Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Pre-Law, Criminal Justice or closely related discipline and five (5) years of professional investigative experience in management, human resources, law, legal advocacy, and/or closely related field.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Pre-Law, Criminal Justice or closely related discipline, and three (3) years of professional investigative experience in management, human resources, law, legal advocacy, and/or closely related field.OR
Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Pre-Law, Criminal Justice or closely related discipline, and one (1) year of professional investigative experience in management, human resources, law, legal advocacy, and/or closely related field.All applicants must possess and/or complete:
- Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
- Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
