This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

 

DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00

LOCATION: 3000 Arctic Boulevard

 

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

 

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

 

To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

 

This position is eligible for a five percent (5%) additional professional certification pay with a valid State of Alaska Professional Engineering (P.E.) License. Eligible candidates are required to provide evidence of the professional certification.

 

Example of Duties

Under limited and general supervision, completes professional engineering duties such as, but not necessarily limited to, conducting engineering reviews of water and wastewater plans/supporting documentation from private development, AWWU, and other agencies projects. Prepare or manage studies/technical papers to address problems and solutions associated with the water distribution or wastewater collection system, regulatory issues, or other business requirements. Prepare agreements when water or wastewater infrastructure is included within other agencies/entities projects. Perform land use reviews and administration by reviewing platting, zoning, encroachments, easements, land disposal or acquisition. Prepare construction plans and specifications for water, wastewater and other improvement projects. Manage water and sanitary sewer improvement district projects. Prepare Business Case Evaluations (BCE's) addressing business requirements for AWWU infrastructure. Conduct field inspections for private development, AWWU capital/operational, and other agencies/entities projects, and other Planning Section related work. Effectively communicate verbally or in writing. Respond to questions from the public involving water or sewer service to parcels. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geomatics, or a closely related discipline, and six (6) years of professional engineering or land surveying experience.

OR

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geomatics, or a closely related discipline, and four (4) years of professional engineering or land surveying experience.

Must possess and/or obtain:

 

Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
 
Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License and satisfactory Driving Record at time of hire.

Preference:
 
State of Alaska Professional Engineer License.
