Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Development Services
HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday 0800-1700
LOCATION: 4700 Elmore Rd
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.
To be considered for employment, candidates must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.
Example of Duties
Perform professional engineering reviews and coordinate reviews by others of construction plans and specifications submitted by various private development contractors for road design and drainage. Aid in the preparation of subdivision agreements and bond documents. Attend project pre-application and pre-construction meetings. Participate in construction site visits and inspections. Investigate and respond to road and drainage-related inquiries and complaints. Review road, drainage, and water quality concerns and prepare appropriate responses for the following: plats; planning and zoning cases; variance and appeal cases; right-of-way permits; wetland permits; dewatering permits; flood hazard permits; residential and commercial building site plans; fill and grade permits, clearing permits, municipal construction plans; and Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) construction plans. Participate in the development of Private Development policies and procedures and perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible engineering experience.
Substitution:
· A Master’s degree in Engineering may substitute for the experience on a year for year basis.
State of Alaska driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.Must be registered in the State of Alaska as a Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering or other appropriate engineering discipline.
