Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Library
HOURS OF WORK: Sunday through Thursday, with a late shift on Monday
LOCATION: 3600 Denali Street
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
To be considered for employment, candidates must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.
Example of Duties
Perform circulation tasks: charging, discharge, renew and route library materials. Empty book drops and automated handling carts. Register patrons for library cards. Help patrons locate materials, place requests, and use library equipment. Respond to questions about library policy/procedure. Research materials status. Operate cash register and credit card console. Complete cash and credit card transactions, initiate customer refunds as appropriate, prepare and make bank deposits. Assist with bus passes, voter registration and other specialized services. Answer phones; communicate by email. Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of library equipment. Provide public assistance with library technologies, including computers, copiers, printers and other devices. Provide ready reference assistance to the public, including knowledge of library website and downloading of materials. Assist with library programs and events, both inside and outside the library. Receive operate/office supplies. Train and assign tasks to volunteers. Establish and maintain effective relations with coworkers, public vendors; treat everyone with honesty, respect and fairness to build an environment of trust; contribute to a collaborative, committed and collegial work environment. Perform all duties of library clerk and library assistant I and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school, GED, or the equivalent and one (1) year of customer service and/or library experience.
Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) at time of hire.
