Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste Services
HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, scheduled hours to be discussed at time of hire.
LOCATION: CTS - 1208 E. 56th Avenue, Anchorage
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Example of Duties
Under general supervision of the Finance / Accounting Manager, the incumbent for this position will handle the SWS department payroll duties, customer billing duties, basic accounting duties, and assist with professional administrative support to the SWS Finance department. This position prepares journal entries, loads journal entries to financial software, and performs G/L account reconciliations. this position will assist in the preparation of audit work-papers and assist auditors with questions. This accountant will maintain asset records, capitalizing and retiring assets in the accounting software, and monitor related depreciation expense. This incumbent will act as the lead person in the management of the unclaimed property program.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and five (5) years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.
