OK YPG friends! If you have always wanted to hike Winner Creek just outside Alyeska hotel, but never had the opportunity, here is your chance. Come hike with Go Hike Alaska on a classic trail packed with sights and sounds that you'll be thinking about years from now. We'll teach you all about what you can find in our coastal rainforests, give you a spiel on avalanche safety (a pretty harrowing topic at the moment), and take lots of amazing photos. Our hike will take us 2.5 miles one-way to a picturesque icy gorge with shimmering water frozen in time. We'll attempt to make it to the hand tram (if you are familiar), but it isn't currently open to the public. If you have never been on a hike during the winter, you need to give it a shot. Winter hiking is a blast, and it is great for the mind and body during the long periods of dark and cold.
Lastly, this is your opportunity to help support an Anchorage-based, small business. With an affordable price of $30, you should have plenty left to spend on the lift tickets and hotel accommodations. Think of it as a donation rather than a fee. 😉 I'd be honored to show you what I do. I'm limiting this hike to the first 8 people who sign up, so we don't take up too much space on the trail. Finally, if you have nano/microspikes for icy terrain please bring them. Also, please bring a mask for instances when we are within 6 feet of one another.
Experience Suggestions: No experience required, but you should be able to walk at least 4 miles on flat pavement, or 3 miles of uneven rolling terrain over the course of 3 hours. Some parts of the trail are steep and hilly, placing additional stress on areas of the body not impacted by level terrain. Not recommended for those with cardiac or respiratory issues/illness. May be difficult for those with severe joint issues.
