"Make it Monday" forum - Annual Anchorage Assembly Progress Report
Anchorage Assembly Chair Christopher Constant will give an annual progress report on the Assembly’s work over the past year, which included passing legislation to cut red tape and incentivize housing construction, making significant progress on the Port of Alaska Modernization, increasing funds for snow plowing, establishing permanent funding for the Fire Department Mobile Crisis and Police Department Mobile Intervention teams, and codifying the “Open Checkbook,” a publicly-accessible online dashboard of municipal spending, which will launch in the coming months.
PLUS, a member presentation from School Business Partnerships and the Spirit of Tomorrow Awards.
Christopher Constant represents District 1, North Anchorage. He was elected in 2017 and has served as Assembly Chair since April 2023. As the Chair of the Assembly, his focus has been to make municipal operations more transparent and accountable, advance the Port of Alaska modernization, work in partnership with the Native Village of Eklutna to restore the Eklutna River, increase investments in mental health resources and public safety, and boost housing development.
Christopher Constant has lived in the North Anchorage district since 1998. Professionally, Christopher is a licensed real estate agent as well as a Grants and Contracts Director for a statewide nonprofit substance abuse and behavioral health treatment provider. During his past involvement with the Fairview Community Council, including two terms as President, Christopher successfully led an effort to improve public safety in his neighborhood which was the catalyst that led him to consider serving as an Assembly Member. Christopher is a strong supporter for improving key infrastructure, strong schools and advocating for intensive services needed by Anchorage's homeless population. Perseverance is a quality that he admires most as can be seen by his favorite quote from The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, “The secret of life, though, is to fall seven times and to get up eight times."
