The Anchorage Chamber has heard increasing reports from businesses experiencing situations with employees and community members in crisis. Businesses are searching for the best way to respond effectively and compassionately to these challenging situations which include people experiencing a behavioral health setback, substance misuse or individuals sleeping in front of businesses. Frontline workers have become more and more responsible for handling these stressful situations and not knowing who to call or what to do.
The Anchorage Chamber heard these businesses loud and clear and with a generous grant from the Rasmuson Foundation engaged Agnew::Beck Consulting to help develop an actionable, scenario-based toolkit. The result is the Anchorage Chamber Community Care Kit: Best Practices for Responding to Community Members and Employees in Crisis. It is a resource to help business and employees effectively respond to a crisis and to help direct those in crisis to the resources they need.
The Anchorage Chamber Community Care Kit is informed by best practices and community voices, from business owners to experts in crisis response including:
- An advisory team of service providers, businesses, and community members
- Focus groups of business owners and employees
- An online survey of local businesses about their experiences and goals for a toolkit
- Direct feedback on the toolkit from experts in crisis response, from APD to Crisis Now
- Review of existing toolkits from around the country to inform the Anchorage toolkit.
Join us at "Make it Monday" to learn more background on the issues, what's in the care kit, how to use the care kit at your business, and what comes next.
