Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

 

This position is represented by the Public Employees, Local 71, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

 

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance & Operations Department

HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Thursday 4/10s

LOCATION: 250 Egloff Road, Girdwood

 

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

 

To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:

  • Internal applicants currently working under the Public Employees (Local 71) Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Local union dispatched applicants
  • External applicants and other current  Municipal employees not covered under this agreement
 

This is a Seasonal position, which will last approximately six (6) months from the date of hire.

 

 

Example of Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the Municipality of Anchorage - Girdwood Service Area parkland and facilities in a safe and usable condition for the general public to enjoy. The park caretaker II is the second level classification in the park maintenance series. This position performs routine park maintenance under general supervision. May be assigned to a specific project or specialized area of responsibility at one park or recreational facility or several parks or areas. Responsible for leading, training, and giving general direction to other Park Caretakers. Summer Season Duties: Maintains turf areas including mowing, irrigation, raking, and fertilization. Maintains trails and walkways. Maintains various sports fields, and courts. Provides maintenance for facilities, signs, fences, and barriers. Participates in sanitation maintenance including litter collection, rest room cleaning, and park area cleanup. Performs snow removal and winter maintenance duties on parking lots, walkways, and other areas. Delivers, assembles, installs, and maintains parks, sports, and special equipment. Reports acts of vandalism and make repairs to property and facilities. Documents park data, and inventories park areas and equipment. Operates associated tools and equipment which includes pick up truck, utility trailers, chipper, weed eater, chain saw, leaf blower, pumps, power and manual hand tools, generator, and compactors. 

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and one (1) year experience as a Parks Caretaker I or the equivalent.
 

Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License and satisfactory Driving Record at time of hire.
