This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.

 

DEPARTMENT: Planning, Development, and Public Works

HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
LOCATION: 4700 Elmore Road

 

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Example of Duties

Under general supervision, responsible for managing the fiscal activities and routine operations of the Zoning and Land use Review Unit. Lead or coordinate the strategic planning functions of the division by establishing organizational goals, manage divisional budget, and direct all assigned personnel. Establish priorities and direct and review daily workflow. Develops, implements, and maintains training for the unit's staff. Provides subject matter expertise on Anchorage 's Title 21 and Land Use Code, to staff. Review development proposals for code compliance and provide written comments. Prepare and review staff reports for land use cases, including occasional presentations before board and commission. Oversee all administrative permits and prepare permits as needed. Prepare and present appeals before board and commission as well as before the Municipality's Administrative Hearing Officer.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

 

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Urban Planning or a related discipline and four (4) years of professional experience in planning, engineering, fiscal management, logistics, surveying, vertical or horizontal construction or inspection, or public works which includes three (3) years in a supervisory or lead capacity.

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Urban Planning or a related discipline and six (6) years of professional experience in planning, engineering, fiscal management, logistics, surveying, vertical or horizontal construction or inspection, or public works which includes three (3) years in a supervisory or lead capacity.

OR

Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Urban Planning or a related discipline and eight (8) years of professional experience in planning, engineering, fiscal management, logistics, surveying, vertical or horizontal construction or inspection, or public works which includes three (3) years in a supervisory or lead capacity.

OR

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and ten (10) years of professional experience in planning, engineering, fiscal management, logistics, surveying, vertical or horizontal construction or inspection, or public works which includes three (3) years in a supervisory or lead capacity.

Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
 

Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License and satisfactory Driving Record at time of hire.
