Job Information

Open to the public, IBEW members, and any current Municipal Employees. 

This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1547 (Technicians) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1547 (Technicians).

DEPARTMENT: Public Transportation
HOURS OF WORK: Shifts vary; 40 hours per week within Monday - Friday
LOCATION: 3701 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue

To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:
 
  • Internal applicants currently working under the IBEW Technicians bargaining agreement 
  • Local union dispatched applicants 
  • External applicants & other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement

 

Example of Duties

This position works in the bus stop enhancement program providing ground maintenance, preparation and landscaping, sweeping and cleaning debris from bus stops, shoveling snow and chipping ice from bus stops, planting flowers, maintaining lawns and planters at bus stops. Facility maintenance including pressure washing and cleaning bus stops and furnishings, installing bus stop furniture including digging holes for embedded furniture and drilling holes for surface mounted furniture, installing and maintaining paver bricks for boarding areas. Minor construction work including but not limited to constructing planters, cleaning and repairing vandalism, painting, some masonry and other related duties. This position is labor intensive and requires work performed in all weather conditions. Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and experience in the operation of small hand tools and performing unskilled heavy manual labor.
 

  • A valid Driver's License and Full Driving record at the time of hire.
  • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.

  • Successfully complete a medical physical and functional capacity examination and will also be required to successfully complete a drug test prior hire.

  • successfully complete a drug test prior to hire.
