"Make it Monday" forum - ISER: Non-Partisan Policy Research for Alaska and Beyond
Walk-in availability is not guaranteed. Please be sure to register by 5 pm the Thursday prior.
The Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) has been at the forefront of public policy research in Alaska for more than sixty years. ISER’s multidisciplinary staff studies many of the major public policy issues facing Alaska. That work helps Alaskans better understand the state’s changing economy, population, and infrastructure, and the challenges and opportunities that come with change. Diane Hirshberg, ISER Director, will give an update on ISER's team and some of the work of greatest relevance to the business community in Alaska.
PLUS, a member presentation from the YWCA Alaska.
Diane Hirshberg has been Director of the Institute of Social and Economic Research for almost four years, and a Professor of Education Policy at the University of Alaska Anchorage for twenty two years. She also serves as Vice-President Academic for the University of the Arctic (UArctic).  Her research includes education policy analysis, Indigenous education, circumpolar education issues, and the role of education in sustainable development in the Arctic. She has studied the boarding school experiences of Alaska Native students, teacher supply, demand, and turnover in Alaska, the cost of teacher turnover, and evaluated numerous education initiatives in the state. Her current work, outside of being an administrator, focuses on the role of education and knowledge sharing in supporting efforts to build energy security and sustainability in northern and Indigenous communities. Dr. Hirshberg teaches in the Master of Public Policy Program at the UAA College of Business and Public Policy. She has a Ph.D. in Education from UCLA, a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University, and two bachelor’s degrees from UC Berkeley.Have a specific question for the presenters?
