Anchorage Museum Recognized by Condé Nast Traveler as One of the Best Museums in the United States
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA— There’s no other place quite like Alaska—a land of sweeping vistas, deep cultural roots and ever-evolving stories. In the heart of Alaska’s largest city and the traditional homeland of the Eklutna Dena’ina, sits the Anchorage Museum, a nexus of art, history and ideas. Condé Nast Traveler has taken notice, naming the Anchorage Museum one of the best museums in the United States.
“This recognition underscores our commitment to sharing Alaska’s stories with a global audience,” said Anchorage Museum Director and CEO Julie Decker. “It highlights the importance of our mission to celebrate the North as a place of resilience, ideas, and transformation through innovative programming and exhibitions, as well as work with neighborhoods and on city streets. I love that Conde Nast featured many smaller and mid-size museums that work closely with their local communities.”
The national publication praises the museum’s Alaska Exhibition, which shares the diverse voices, stories, and landscapes that define Alaska, and the expansive Art of the North Galleries, which present the museum’s art collection from the perspectives of American art and an international North. The Anchorage Museum is also home to the Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center, which presents masterworks of Alaska Native art and design from the collections of the Smithsonian Institution. An interactive Discovery Center features marine life tanks, guided exploration, makers' labs, and a planetarium. A programming and convening space called Seed Lab offers opportunities for creatives, neighbors, and others to connect and share ideas around climate and community.
