Special Guest from Association of Children's Museums at Free Children’s Museum for a Day and Northern Lights & Playful Nights Fundraiser

President of the Association of Children’s Museums to Visit Anchorage as The Nave Becomes a Children’s Museum for a Day

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — On Saturday, August 9, the Alaska Children’s Museum will be joined by the Fairbanks Children’s Museum, the Seward Children’s Museum and other community partners to transform the Nave, located at 3502 Spenard Road, into Anchorage’s very own children’s museum for one day only. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the children’s museum will be free to families with children. At 5 p.m., the doors will open for a 21+ fundraiser event for adults to explore the children’s museum exhibits, learn about the mission of Alaska Children’s Museum and help raise funds to support current programming and to advance the goal of opening a new children’s museum in Anchorage.
Special guest Arthur Affleck, President and CEO of the Association of Children’s Museums, will be traveling to Alaska in support of local children’s museums and their contributions to their communities and the museum field.

Free Pop-Up Museum: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Admission is free as families are invited to explore interactive exhibits and activities with community partners. Local food trucks B Street Gumbo and Kona Ice will have tasty offerings for snacks throughout the day. The Fairbanks Children’s Museum and Seward’s Children’s Museum will bring additional exhibits and activities from their respective museums to highlight Alaska’s growing children’s museum network.
“This pop-up uplifts and celebrates the unique role children’s museums play in our communities as places that encourage childhood wonder and social connection,” said Brennon Land, Alaska Children’s Museum Founder & Executive Director. “We’re thrilled to showcase the collaborative spirit across Alaska and give Anchorage a glimpse of what our children’s museum can be when we have a building of our own.”

Traffic Garden

The Center for Safe Alaskans will be hosting a new, mobile traffic garden outside in the parking lot, where families can practice safe road skills on a miniature roundabout designed just for kids. Families are encouraged to ride to the event and park their bikes with the bike valet provided by Bike Anchorage. Scooters and helmets will also be available to borrow.

Northern Lights & Playful Nights Fundraiser: 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. (21+)

The children’s museum will be open to adult ticketholders who want to support the work of the Alaska Children’s Museum while engaging with fun, hands-on experiences usually reserved for kids. Attendees will enjoy:
  • Interactive exhibits & games
  • Organic dinner provided by Crunchy’s Real Food
  • Playful dessert donated by Wild Scoops
  • Inspiring stories and announcements, featuring guest speaker Arthur Affleck, Executive Director of the Association of Children's Museums
  • First look at a brand-new mobile exhibit
  • Silent auction & raffle prizes, including donations from Alaska Railroad, Alyeska Resort, The Nordic Home, Moose’s Tooth, River Wild Campervans, and more.
Proceeds will support the museum’s mobile museum programming and its vision of opening a permanent children’s museum in Anchorage.
