New Child Watch Center Provides Childcare Options on Base
JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska — March 3, 2026 Global Credit Union, in partnership with the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska (ASYMCA), celebrated the grand opening of a new Child Watch childcare center located inside Global’s Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) branch, expanding access to flexible, short-term childcare for military families on base.
The Child Watch center provides drop-in childcare for infants through toddlers, offering a safe, engaging environment for children while parents attend appointments, run errands, or manage other responsibilities. Designed with multiple play zones and age-appropriate activities, the space supports learning, creativity, and social interaction in a secure setting.
To make the center possible, Global donated a portion of its JBER branch space, continuing its longstanding partnership with the ASYMCA and a shared commitment to supporting military families through practical, community-focused solutions.
“Access to nearby, trusted childcare changes the experience for many of my patients. The Child Watch center allows parents to focus on their appointments knowing their children are safe and cared for,” said Dr. MaryBeth Goodman, Executive Director of Service Member, Veteran, and Family Services at Alaska Behavioral Health. “I appreciate Global Credit Union and the ASYMCA for creating a solution that truly supports military families.”
The opening of the Child Watch center also allows for additional space at the Global–ASYMCA Learning Center, a classroom-based early learning and daycare program previously sharing space with the drop-in service. With the Child Watch now housed in its own dedicated location, both programs are better positioned to serve families and meet their distinct childcare needs.
The Child Watch center is open to military families and reflects a broader commitment by Global and the ASYMCA to invest in services that strengthen families, support readiness, and enhance quality of life on base.
