Municipality of Anchorage Invites Community to Celebrate 50 Year Anniversary

The Municipality of Anchorage is proud to unveil the official events calendar for its 50th anniversary celebration. Beginning September 5, residents are invited to participate in the celebration marking fifty years since the unification of city and borough governments in 1975.
"Fifty years ago, the creation of our municipal government laid the foundation for the vibrant community we are today. I am excited to invite all our residents to join in celebrating this important anniversary,” said Mayor Suzanne LaFrance. “It's an opportunity to reflect on our history, acknowledge our present challenges, and to reimagine and build an even brighter tomorrow for our community, together."
The MOA50 celebration showcases our rich history, celebrates our vibrant diversity, and invites bold ideas for the future.
"To celebrate our 50th is to celebrate who and what we are while we set intentions about who we want to be," added Assembly Vice Chair Anna Brawley. "This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to hear directly from the leaders who crafted our government as we know it today and unite behind our brightest hopes for the future."
Events range from family-friendly outdoor experiences and storytelling features in iconic venues to neighborhood celebrations down the street.
