Matson Donates $1.4 Million to Alaska Nonprofits in 2024
ANCHORAGE (May 7, 2025) – Ocean transportation and logistics service company Matson contributed a total of $1.4 million in cash donations and in-kind services to 110 Alaska charitable community organizations and non-profit programs during 2024.
Cash contributions, including funds directed by employees through the company’s Matching Gift program, totaled $600,000 in 2024, while the value of donated services and equipment came to $800,000. Environmental programs comprised the largest category of giving at approximately $1 million.
As part of its pandemic response plan in 2020, Matson made a multi-year commitment of $5 million in cash and in-kind services to support food bank networks in Alaska, Hawaii, and Guam through 2023. In 2023, the company committed to providing another $5 million in cash and in-kind services to continue supporting community food bank networks through 2026.
A quarter-million dollars of donated or discounted shipping supported food banks and food security programs in Alaska.
Larger contributions included:
- $769,500 in-kind support for Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling
- $246,055 in in-kind and cash support for the Food Bank of Alaska
- $87,000 to the Alaska Sealife Center
- $86,510 for education programs, including $15,000 for high school graduate scholarships in Kodiak and Unalaska
- $45,500 to support community projects that demonstrate environmental stewardship through Matson’s Caring for Alaska program
- $45,000 for Prince William Sound Science Center
- $37,455 to Zender Environmental (Backhaul Alaska)
- $30,000 for Covenant House Alaska
- $23,062 for Special Olympics Alaska
