Increased fraud activity targeting Alaskans to gain sensitive information to gain sensitive information
An increasing number of Alaskans are reporting receiving calls and texts from fraudsters trying to collect their login, ACH and debit card information by posing as First National employees. The caller ID may display as a First National phone number. These calls and texts may sound and look official, but they are not.
First National will never call or text customers and ask for personal and/or account information. It’s important to never share sensitive information like a bank password, PIN, or a one-time login code with someone who calls or texts.
What you need to know to reduce your fraud risk:
- Only share personal or financial information when you initiate a conversation with a trusted source.
- If you are a First National customer, hang up and call us directly at 907-777-4362 or 800-856-4362 if you receive a suspicious request asking for account verification or think you have fallen victim to fraud.
- Ignore calls or texts from unknown phone numbers or emails from unknown email addresses and block each fraudulent one.
- Scams rely on speed and fear. Watch out for a false sense of urgency.
- Never click links or download attachments from unsolicited emails or texts — especially those asking you to “verify” or “update” your account.
- Check your accounts daily for unauthorized activity.

In 2025, Forbes selected First National as the sixth bank in the country on their America’s Best Banks list, and Newsweek recognized the bank as one of the nation’s Best Regional Banks and Credit Unions. In 2024, Alaska Business readers voted First National “Best of Alaska Business” in the Best Place to Work category for the ninth year in a row, Best Bank/Credit Union for the fourth time running, and Best Customer Service. The bank was also voted “Best of Alaska” in 2024 in the Anchorage Daily News awards, ranking as one of the top three in the Bank/Financial category for the sixth year in a row. American Banker again recognized First National as a “Best Bank to Work For” in 2024, for the seventh consecutive year.
