Downtown Comes Alive: “Let’s Paint Nordy’s” Mural Reveal on June 20!

Downtown Comes Alive: “Let’s Paint Nordy’s” Mural Reveal with Mayor LaFrance, Artist Rhonda Scott & Community Celebration June 20!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 18, 2025
Anchorage, AK — The community is invited to a vibrant celebration of Anchorage’s newest public art project, “Let’s Paint Nordy’s,” on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 1:00 to 1:30 PM at the old Nordstrom building in downtown Anchorage. This bold, community-powered mural—led by local artist Rhonda Scott—has transformed a major downtown storefront into a beacon of creativity and civic pride.
Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance will join neighbors, volunteers, and local leaders to unveil the mural and honor the power of public art in reimagining our urban spaces. The project was supported by the Anchorage Community Development Authority (ACDA) as part of its mission to bring life, color, and community energy back to downtown.
“This project was driven by dedicated community members who wanted to make a tangible difference, and it demonstrates our community’s spirit and shared vision for a revitalized and vibrant downtown Anchorage,” said Mayor LaFrance. “This mural is a colorful reminder that together, we can transform our city center into a more dynamic and welcoming space for everyone.”
“Let’s Paint Nordy’s reflects what’s best about Anchorage: creativity, collaboration, and community,” said ACDA External Affairs Director Melinda Gant. “We’re proud to support projects that uplift our public spaces and spark civic pride.”
Rhonda Scott, the mural’s creator, shared: “This mural is a love letter to Anchorage. It’s about bringing light, color, and joy back to a space that has long felt forgotten. Watching the community come together to paint and connect has been the most rewarding part of this journey.”
Following the reveal, Rhonda Scott will be at Alaska Cake Studio in the 5th Avenue Mall from 1:30 to 2:30 PM, selling and signing limited-edition mural prints based on her original designs.
To make it even sweeter, EasyPark will be at Alaska Cake Studio validating garage parking for the 5th Avenue and JCPenney Parking Garages—so come enjoy the art and parking on us!
