Cheers to You, Anchorage!
When Anchorage voters approved the alcohol tax in 2020, they dedicated the revenue to addressing public safety, child abuse and domestic violence, addiction and behavioral health, and homelessness.
Five years later, the Municipality collects about $15 million every year from the tax, driving investments in a safer and healthier community.
Cheers to You, Anchorage is an education campaign committed to transparency and accountability in local government. At cheersanchorage.org, you can view spending reports from each year the alcohol tax has been collected and see where the money is headed in 2025.
From launching the Mobile Crisis Team to opening the Golden Lion as housing, we’re telling the stories of our community’s investments. This year, you’ll hear us on the radio and see our campaign out in the community. Cheers!
On the topic of alcohol, during the upcoming Regular Assembly Meeting this Tuesday, the Assembly will hear public testimony on two ordinances related to industry regulations:
- Sponsored by Assembly Members Anna Brawley, Jared Goecker, and George Martinez - AO 2025-66 proposes to allow employees under the age of 21 to serve alcohol at licensed establishments.
- Sponsored by Assembly Members Scott Myers, Yarrow Silvers, and Daniel Volland - AO 2025-68 proposes a repeal to AO 2024-101(S), As Amended, to require mandatory ID checks for the sale of alcohol in any licensed establishment. Approved in December 2024, the change took effect in March 1, 2025.
