Anchorage Chamber Board Supports Municipal and Anchorage School District Bonds
ANCHORAGE – The Board of Directors of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce recently voted to support the Municipality of Anchorage and Anchorage School District (ASD) bond packages that will be on the April 7, 2026, municipal election ballot.
The Anchorage Chamber recognizes that, without continued investment, the city cannot continue to attract businesses and families who want to live and work in Anchorage. Strong police and fire departments, transportation, community facilities and quality parks are all important aspects of creating a thriving community. The proposed bonds will help improve all these areas. The board also understands that having sound schools helps build and maintain a strong economy and vibrant city. The ASD bond package and special levy invest responsibly in classroom instruction and projects vital to the safety of students and staff.
“The proposed bond packages represent necessary reinvestment in the Anchorage community” said Anchorage Chamber President & CEO Kathleen McArdle. “Facing a significant budgeting shortfall, the $11.8 million dollar ASD special levy ensures we are maximizing our local contributions and commitment to classroom instruction.” McArdle went on to say that “the Municipal bonds are intended for road repairs, parks improvements and investments in public safety. All are excellent investments for our community.”
“We are grateful to the Anchorage Chamber for supporting the special tax levy,” says Carl Jacobs, Anchorage School Board President.”Their leadership recognizes that strong schools are essential to a strong economy. Proposition 9 will help retain more than 80 teachers and reduce projected class sizes adopted in the FY27 ASD Budget.”
