Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Public Employees, Local 71, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation
HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30 pm
LOCATION: 1321 Lidia Selkregg Ln.
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.
Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:
- Internal applicants currently working under the Public Employees (Local 71) Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Local union dispatched applicants
- External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement
Example of Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the Municipality of Anchorage Park land and facilities in a safe and usable
condition for the general public to enjoy. As a mid-level role in the Park Maintenance series, the Park Caretaker II performs skilled
routine maintenance under general supervision, utilizing advanced abilities and independent judgment to complete assignments.
The responsibilities of this position are focused on natural resource related work including, tree work, vegetation management, and
trail work. Tree work includes cutting down, limbing and bucking of trees, chipping of tree debris, basic maintenance of chainsaws,
chippers and other tree work related tools, tree planting using basic dirt work with tools such as a shovel. Vegetation management
includes seed collection, removing, replacing, and/or planting vegetation and overgrowth on municipal land or trail corridors. Trail
work includes construction of soft-surface trails, improving trail tread and drainage and maintaining assets along the trail
corridors. Additionally, the incumbent assists with volunteer events by teaching and encouraging members of the public. Other
duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and one (1) year experience as a Parks Caretaker I or the equivalent.
Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
