Hours of Work: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., M-F, with occasional evenings and weekends for events.

Position Summary
The Director of Community Impact leads efforts to turn bold ideas into real solutions. As a key architect and connector of United Way of Anchorage’s impact agenda, the Director builds powerful partnerships, champions innovation, and represents UWA across the community.
This role is ideal for someone driven by systems change, motivated to work collaboratively across sectors, and committed to finding and implementing innovative solutions to Anchorage’s most pressing challenges. The Director must be a visible and trusted presence in the community, engaging both longtime collaborators and new partners across nonprofit, public, and private sectors.
The Director of Community Impact is a member of the Senior Leadership Team. This position is based in Anchorage, Alaska, and requires regular in-person engagement with community partners and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Innovation:
- Develop and implement strategic plans for community impact, including identifying key areas of focus and setting measurable goals.
- Identify and adapt innovative programs, partnerships, and policies, including from the United Way Worldwide network.
- Collaborate with community partners to co-create solutions that respond to Anchorage’s evolving needs.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of community impact programs and initiatives.
- Lead the community impact investment and evaluation process.
- Oversee UWA’s grantmaking and investment processes, ensuring alignment with priorities and outcomes.
- Apply data and community input to refine strategies and drive continuous improvement.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and funders.
- Contribute to the organization’s fundraising efforts by securing grants and funding for community impact initiatives.
- Help articulate the story of UWA’s impact in ways that resonate with donors, partners, and the public.
- Represent the organization in public forums, advocate for its causes, and engage with community members.
- Provide staff support for committees as directed/requested by CEO.
- Elevate community voice in all aspects of program development and decision-making.
- Represent UWA in community-wide efforts, coalitions, and events—not only as a participant but as a convener and connector.
- Supervise staff involved in community impact efforts and provide opportunities for training and development.
- Develop and monitor operating budgets for community impact activities for efficient, effective, and best use of resources.
- Strategic & engaging communication
- Proficient data collection, analysis and reporting
- Experience budgeting, financial planning, and reporting
- Skilled in community outreach, partnership building, and stakeholder engagement
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, community development, education, human services, or related field.
- A minimum of five years of increasingly responsible management/professional experience in public or nonprofit administration, or community organizing; and/or successfully managing complex social problems through multi-discipline approaches.
- Proven experience in building cross-sector partnerships and representing an organization in external settings.
- Deep knowledge of Anchorage’s community landscape.
- Experience supervising staff and managing community-focused initiatives.
