Communications Manager
About This Role:
We are seeking a Communications Manager to lead ADP’s work in celebrating downtown and connecting with the neighbors who make downtown special. The Communications Manager will lead all aspects of ADP’s external communications and work collaboratively with ADP’s staff, board, and partners to market downtown and ADP’s work. A key part of this position includes building strong relationships with members & representing the organization at a variety of community events and meetings.
This role requires occasional evening and weekend work to support ADP’s community events and programs. This role has plenty of opportunities for growth, advancement and making an impact in your community.
About Us:
The Anchorage Downtown Partnership (ADP) is a nonprofit organization that provides supplemental public services, hosts community events, and leads advocacy for downtown Anchorage. Our mission is to create a vibrant, safe, and clean downtown.
Our operations team of around 15 Ambassadors keeps downtown sidewalks clear of snow and litter, connects those in need to emergency services, and responds to requests from business owners. Our events staff organizes more than 50 free community events every year, including Live After Five and New Year’s Eve. We have more than 500 members, who are downtown businesses and property owners, and we work closely with our members to advocate for investments and improvements to downtown.

Core Duties
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Market downtown and ADP’s events and programs:
- Management of ADP’s social media channels, website, and newsletter.
- Work closely with downtown partners to market downtown news and events.
- Work closely with ADP’s events team to promote ADP’s community events.
- Serve as the point of contact for media inquiries and media relations.
- Build relationships with ADP’s members and partners:
- Engage ADP’s membership through development of member-focused communications strategy and content on all platforms.
- Support the Executive Director in preparing for board meetings and help with staffing ADP’s Board of Directors Marketing Committee.
- Assist the Executive Director and Events Director with sponsor and grantor engagement, and assist with stewarding, tracking, and reporting on sponsorships and grants.
- Grow and improve ADP’s communications and external engagement:
- Regularly evaluate ADP’s communications and implement improvements when opportunities are identified.
- Improve systems for data management and record-keeping for reporting to our members and board.
- Other duties as assigned, including supporting ADP’s events and membership work.
Experience and Qualifications:
- At least two years of communications experience demonstrating progressive responsibility in previous role(s).
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, think creatively, and problem solve with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated experience with two or more of the following is required: nonprofit communications, public policy, social media management, fund development, project management.
- Extremely strong writing, researching, editing, and proofreading skills required, with excellent attention to detail.
- Comfort with basic graphic design (Canva) and photography.
- Ability to work effectively with ADP’s diverse staff team and board.
- Strong in-person communications skills, including ability to represent the organization professionally including in media interviews and in meetings.
- Enthusiasm for downtown Anchorage, including willingness to be present at community events, build relationships with stakeholders, and gain a deep on-the-ground knowledge of ADP and downtown.
