Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Development Services
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00
LOCATION: 4700 Elmore Road
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties
Under direction of the Lead Permit Manager, manage building and land use projects from application to Certificate of Occupancy issuance; answer technical code questions; make engineering value judgements; manage retrofit building and fire rehab application approvals; review small project specifications for adherence to submittal requirements; receive, monitor, and resolve customer complaints; coordinate plan reviews and approvals with all appropriate staff; and manage coverage of the ACD telephone system. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and four (4) years of technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management or a related field.
OR
Associate’s degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Drafting, Statistics, Logistics, or similar discipline, and two (2) years of technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management or a related field.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Drafting, Statistics, Logistics, or similar discipline, and technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management or a related field.
Must possess and/or obtain:
- Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
- Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License and satisfactory Driving Record at time of hire.
