Virtual Walk on the Wild Side
The Alaska Zoo's 2020 annual fundraiser "Walk on the Wild Side" is going virtual on Thursday, August 27th, 2020 at 7:00pm! The safety of our community is a top priority for us, so we decided to forego having a large social gathering to bring this event to you live online! This will be an evening to remember.
Walk with us. We plan to make Virtual Walk on the Wild Side a creative journey for all participants! The evening affair will be broadcast from zoo grounds via private Zoom invitation and participants will get to see zoo staff with animals, special animal enrichment, the finale of the online auction, local artist V Rae showcasing her artwork being auctioned in print and Chef Patrick Hoogerhyde of Bridge Seafood cooking an originally designed and planned recipe with you from our zoo lawn to your kitchen!
Why we need you. Our Walk on the Wild Side fundraiser is the zoo's largest annual fundraiser of the year and a critical piece of our annual animal care and operating support. In 2020, the zoo has experienced challenges like no other year including an extended closure and decreased operations due to COVID-19. These factors combined with a lack of tourism have left us in need of your support now more than ever! We receive no city, state or federal operational funding so we rely on our sales and donations from supporters like you!
Recipe. Chef Patrick Hoogerhyde of Bridge Seafood has designed an original recipe for this event which will be given to all ticket holders. You gather the ingredients, watch our Chef Patrick tutorial videos and join him live online from the zoo's lawn to cook along with him in your own kitchen!
Online auction. All ticket holders will have access to the online auction which will open on August 25th to include the following items and more:
~A print of an original V Rae zoo animal painting.
~Glamping experience for 8 on the zoo lawn.
~Dinner for 8 with zoo polar bear Cranbeary.
~Princess or superhero birthday party in the greenhouse for up to 10 children and 4 adults.
~Private tour with Zoo Director and 35 year employee Patrick Lampi.
~Wine basket courtesy of the zoo's Board of Directors.
~A handmade Alaska Zoo themed quilt.
~A handmade Alaska Zoo bird house.
~A commissioned pet portrait by artist Jill Myer on Instagram @jillmyer_artist.
~Annabelle the elephant artwork.
~A Polar Bear Power zoo membership (our highest membership level valued at $1000) which includes a private zoo tour and animal encounter.
~More items to be announced soon!
We appreciate the generosity of our title sponsor ConocoPhillips and additional sponsorship by USI Insurance Services, Arctic Slope Regional Corporation, Oil Search and Alaska Mill and Feed. Your support is greatly appreciated!
We hope you will join us to Walk on the Wild Side, cyber-style!
