For the last 65 years, the mission of United Way of Anchorage has stayed the same: to improve the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community. While our focus and commitment has not wavered, the complexity and scale of issues and the ways we work to improve lives and our city, certainly have. Join Clark Halvorson, President & CEO of United Way of Anchorage, and John Sims, President of ENSTAR Natural Gas Company and United Way's 2021 Community Campaign Chair, to learn how we're strengthening partnerships, building on our community's successes, and how you can take part in the development of our new vision for the next 3-5 years.
Clark Halvorson is the President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way of Anchorage. He brings over 25 years of nonprofit and public health experience at the local, state, tribal, and national levels where he has focused on whole system approaches to improving health and supporting healthy places where people live and play.
Prior to leading United Way of Anchorage, Clark served as the Assistant Secretary within the
Department of Health for the State of Washington, leading the state?s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and working to ensure a coordinated and effective response across their healthcare system.
Clark has deep roots in Alaska as he spent his formative years in Anchorage and across the state. Some of his strongest memories are those of hearing his father preach at his church on Jewel Lake Road, spending summers on the Kenai River and fishing out of Homer.
With a deep passion to see public, private, and non-profit sectors work together, Clark is a leader in finding innovation, improving service delivery, and seeking change that supports growing and diverse communities.
John Sims is the President of ENSTAR Natural Gas Company and has been named the 2021 United Way of Anchorage Community Campaign Chair. Born and Raised in Alaska, John Sims graduated from Chugiak High School in 1996 and Hillsdale College in Michigan in 2001. Mr. Sims received his MBA from UAA in 2009. He began his career at ENSTAR in 2005 in the business development and public affairs department. He took on leadership roles as Director and Vice President in the business development, customer service, and human resources departments before being named President in 2017.
Mr. Sims currently resides in Eagle River with his wife, Kai Binkley Sims, and their three children. During the summer months, he spends his free time as the head coach for the Chugiak Mustangs Baseball Team. In addition, he currently serves on various for profit and nonprofit organization boards.
All registrations, including punch cards and coffee reservations, are due by 10 am the Friday before the forum.
CANCELLATION NOTE: To receive a full refund, registration must be canceled by 5 pm the Thursday prior to the forum. No refunds will be given after this date. Punch cards will still be punched if not cancelled by 5 pm the Thursday prior, as mentioned. If you do not arrive by 12:15 pm. your seat will be forfeited. All registrations are transferable to another person upon your request.
