"Make it Monday" forum - Making an Impact - Partnerships That Work at The Lakefront Anchorage

Panel members will highlight best practices in local school business partnerships, the benefits and ROI they receive from their efforts. Explore options for engagement with School Business Partnership members and lock in next steps.

Anchorage School Business Partnerships (SBP) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) with a mission to engage community to inspire youth toward a vibrant future. SBP was established 28 years ago and provides connections, tools and resources for meaningful partnerships between schools and local business organizations. Participating businesses range from large for-profit corporations, state entities, to one-person operations. Each partnership is designed to serve both student needs and the business mission.

Adam Leggett, Native Program Manager w/ Stantec
Adam is Dena’ina Athabascan and an enrolled member of the Native Village of Eklutna (NVE) where he serves as Treasurer on the Tribal council. Adam is a US Navy Veteran and has more than 14 years of experience working for a variety of Alaska businesses, including oil and gas companies and Alaska Native businesses. Adam joined Stantec in 2017 and in his role as Alaska Native Program Manager, he is focused on developing and facilitating business partnerships with Alaska Native Corporations, Tribes, nonprofits, and organizations. In addition, he provides project support as a specialist in cultural integration, grant writing, and human resources to make Stantec a diverse and inclusive place to work.

Beki Toussaint, Education Program Manager w/ Alaska Resource Education
Beki Toussaint moved to AK in 2008 after completing a dual degree in Natural Science and Education from Colorado State University and teaching science and math at a Fort Collins High School. While in AK, Beki has worked as an environmental scientist for an engineering firm and completed a Master’s in Environmental Science from Alaska Pacific University. With Alaska Resource Education (ARE), Beki has been able to combine her passion for teaching with her knowledge and experience from consulting in industry. Since joining ARE in 2012, Beki has spent her time traveling across the state educating students and teachers about Alaska’s Natural Resources.

Laarni Power, Community Partnership Coordinator w/ Providence Health & Services Alaska
Since 2005, Laarni Power has managed the Community Partnerships program at Providence Health and Services Alaska. This is a program that provides opportunities for career exploration in health care through activities such as career presentations, job shadows, and mentorships. Prior to this role she served as an Employee Relations Advisor with Providence Human Resources for nine years.  Laarni has also served on the Anchorage School Business Partnerships board since 2005, including stints as treasurer and vice-chair. With Providence’s continued partnership with the Anchorage School District as a whole, Laarni’s roles with Providence and with the SBP board combine for a perfect blend to help “inspire youth toward a vibrant future.”

Mark Stock, Deputy Superintendent w/ Anchorage School District
Dr. Stock has been in education for 40 years.  In addition to his beginnings as an elementary teacher and principal, he has 15 years of experience as a superintendent and 5 years as a Professor in a doctoral program teaching future superintendents.  This is his fourth year at the Anchorage School District in his role as Deputy Superintendent. His life work in education has centered around improving educational outcomes for students.

Michael Tuminella, Operations Manager w/ Siemens
Mike moved to Alaska in 1992 after growing up in the construction industry. Mike’s primary trade specialty was as an electrician.  He has now worked with Siemens for over 27 years in numerous capacities. His favorite part of the job is the peers he gets to work with. Currently, Mike’s focus is dedicated to using technology to make buildings comfortable, safe and secure. Mike makes the most of living here in Alaska. He loves camping, gardening and travel, especially to warm beaches in the winter.
