"Make it Monday" forum - Energy & Infrastructure in Alaska
An overview of the current projects Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) and Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) are managing and how they impact Alaskans, the economy, and the job force presented by Morgan Neff, Chief Investment Officer, AIDEA, and Curtis Thayer, Executive Director, AEA.

Morgan D. Neff joined AIDEA as its Chief Investment Officer in February 2021. Mr. Neff has nearly two decades of executive level investment experience across a variety of structures and asset classes. Prior to joining AIDEA, Neff was responsible for leading global investment decisions across multi-billion-dollar investment and family office organizations with extensive investment experience in credit, direct financing, project financing, structured investments, mergers and acquisitions, complex financial engineering and corporate restructurings. Mr. Neff has worked with some of the world’s largest domestic and sovereign wealth funds, municipalities, and public pensions funds. Neff has also served on several public and private company boards throughout his career, including assignments on audit and governance committees. Neff holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Curtis W. Thayer is the executive director of the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA), the state's energy office and lead agency for statewide energy policy and program development. Prior to AEA, Thayer served as president and chief executive officer of the Alaska Chamber, the largest state trade association.
Previous to that position, he served as commissioner for the Department of Administration and as a cabinet member for Governor Sean Parnell, with responsibility for 1,100 public employees and an annual budget of $350 million. Additionally, his public service includes time as the deputy commissioner of the Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development and working in Washington, D.C. with Congressman Don Young and Senators Ted Stevens and Lisa Murkowski.
Before public service, Thayer worked on the management team of ENSTAR Natural Gas Company and for the Alaska Gas Producers Pipeline Team.
Thayer has served on boards at Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, Alaska Gasline Development Corporation, Alaska Retirement Management Board, Alaska Royalty Oil and Gas Development Advisory Board, U.S. Chambers’ Committee of 100, and currently chairs the Alaska Board of Marine Pilots.
A life-long Alaskan, Thayer is a graduate of the University of Alaska Fairbanks and is married to Josie and they have one son.
