A second-generation human resource professional with more than 28 years of experience in a variety of industries, Heather has extensive knowledge in employee relations, compliance, recruitment and retention, and human resources information systems. Prior to joining Alera ConnectHR in 2018, she held management-level positions at Hilcorp Alaska, CH2M Hill, General Communication Inc., and the Anchorage School District.
Heather understands how important it is to balance HR processes and procedures with an organization’s business needs; she helps small to medium-sized businesses build solid and compliant HR services in a timely, cost-effective, and efficient manner.
In addition to her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a concentration in human resources from Towson State University, and a Master of Science in Project Management (MSPM) from the University of Alaska Anchorage, Heather has earned the Professional Human Resources (PHR®) certification and is a Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP®). She has lived in Alaska for over 28 years.
Thomas Showalter, CCP, SHRM-SCP, HR Services Director
Thomas has a passion for helping businesses hire, retain, and engage high-performing workforces. Following a rewarding career as a human resources leader for companies such as Alaska Communications Systems, Chenega Corporation, and UIC, that passion inspired Thomas to launch the company now known as Alera ConnectHR.
In addition to leading his team of professionals at Alera ConnectHR, Thomas provides employment strategy, engagement, compensation, and performance management services to his clients. He is a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP®) and Society of Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP®) and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Oregon.
Throughout his career, Thomas has been an active member in his community and industry, taking on leadership roles in SHRM, on nonprofit boards, and in business-led efforts to address high healthcare costs. He prides himself on earning a place as a trusted professional to his clients, and as a respected leader for his outstanding team of professionals at Alera ConnectHR.
